Splits occur as we learn to compartmentalize memories that are too painful for us when we are abused as very young children. A true dissociative identity disorder will have complete personalities that may or may not communicate. This song is more indicative of the splits that often occur with someone who has Complex-PTSD or Borderline Personality Disorder.
Note: C-PTSD is a diagnosis that is NOT in the DSM here in the US, but is in the ICD which is used internationally to describe conditions. Too often, in this country, the label of BPD gets put on a person who doesn't entirely fit the diagnosis.
